"Fixing your boat…

…in exotic places".  That one of the working definitions of cruising.  We must be cruising because that’s exactly what were doing and it’s seems like we've jumped right into it, the fixing part that is.  At least it’s in a small way.

We broke two of our sail slides.  They look like this:

The rub is that we only have 1 spare on onboard.   I couldn't find any on line so we called our sailmaker, Wyckam/North Sails in Portland OR.  Matt went the extra mile and found some on the east coast.  We've now got 7 of them on order to be 2nd day air, dropped shipped to the harbor master's office who have graciously agreed to receive them for us.

This is what a good one looks like mounted in a batten car and installed in a section of the mast track:

The slides seemed a little tight in the track so I sanded .010" off of the base of each one.

In the meantime Bev went up the mast with our one good slide looking for any interferences that may be causing the problem.
It's a good thing that she had recently earned her mast-monkey wings and was cleared for flight because this was a long one, 4 hours up the mast.  In the process she found several bolt heads that were slightly sticking out, proud, as they say.  The screws were frozen but she was able to use a dremel tool grind them down flush to the bottom of the track.  While she was up there she lubricated the entire track with a paraffin based lubricant.

In the meantime we worked out the setup for our new Code 1 gennaker sail from (huge endorsement here) NORTH SAILS of Portland Oregon.

It's a beautiful sail and I can't wait to try it away from the dock ;-).  It should also be good complement to our smallish 105% jib.

Our new sail slides should come be in tomorrow or the next day.  We've got a few more minor projects to do on the boat.  This also happens to be a very beautiful marina to pass the time in...

...and just over the breakwater is a nice beach:

What more could a sailor ask for?
